The move was encouraged by artist collective Fossil Free Culture NL (FFCNL), who have been campaigning for the arts to withdraw from fossil fuel company sponsorship for three years. FFCNL have praised the milestone as critical in the city’s strategy to becoming carbon neutral by 2050. Frida Escalante of FFCNL said: ‘With our disobedient art performances, we’ve successfully freed our Museumplein from fossil fuel influence. There’s no place for oil and gas criminals in the cultural sector.’ For more information on the work of FFCNL visit https://www.fossilfreeculture.nl/portfolio/.'
